Emerging technologies and innovative applications in low enthalpy geothermal energy

How to valorize low-temperature geothermal resources

Low enthalpy geothermal resources, with temperatures below 150°C, represent a significant and still largely unexplored opportunity in the renewable energy landscape. Thanks to advanced ORC technologies, these resources can now be effectively exploited for energy production, opening new territories to geothermal valorization and considerably expanding the exploitable potential.

The use of binary cycle systems allows energy to be extracted from resources traditionally considered not economically advantageous, such as medium-temperature thermal waters, abandoned oil wells, or enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). Innovative applications also include hybrid systems that integrate low-temperature geothermal energy with other renewable sources, optimizing overall efficiency and ensuring more stable and predictable energy production compared to isolated single technologies.
