THE CUSTOMER

Quonset Soil Solutions (QSS) is a U.S. based company that transforms underutilized forestry byproducts into high‑quality biochar products. QSS’s mission is to reduce air and water pollution through environmentally safe, OMRI‑certified solutions while making tangible contributions to the circular economy.

THE NEED

QSS selected Turboden’s ORC technology to recover thermal energy from pyrolysis exhaust flue gas. The heat is conveyed to the ORC system through a dedicated heat exchanger and thermal‑oil loop, where it is converted into clean electricity.

OUR SOLUTION

Turboden supplied a 1.8 MW ORC system with a water cooled condenser that recovers exhaust flue gas from the pyrolysis process through a dedicated heat exchanger and thermal oil circuit.
The electricity generated by the ORC unit offsets the internal power demand of the biochar facility, allowing QSS to operate fully independently from the electrical grid. The project also enables QSS to access the Investment Tax Credit (ITC), improving the overall economic performance of the investment.
Upon completion, the system will help the client avoid 16,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year.
