The untapped potential of district heating
18 December 2025
District heating works like a public transport system for heat: instead of individual boilers, it distributes hot water and heating from a central source to homes, businesses, and public buildings.
Today, district heating is gaining momentum as a key solution for decarbonization. While most networks still rely on fossil fuels, the potential to integrate renewables and waste heat is enormous. Technologies such as Turboden large heat pumps enable the use of low-temperature heat sources and deliver hot water up to 150°C or steam for advanced systems. These innovations make it possible to connect renewable energy and industrial waste heat to district networks, reducing emissions and improving efficiency.
